1. Oh may I‘ll be not wicked in my heart,
Like Absalom’s heart ‘s, full of wicked art;
Pardoned of his sins yet, unpurged of self,
Who the grace of king received in vain.
Save me oh LORD from sin and self,
Sanctify me by Thy Word of life;
Purge me of myself, my LORD, my King,
Make my heart, oh LORD, for ever Thine.
2. Shall I forget, LORD, Thy mercies matchless?
And Thy blood by which I am saved priceless?
Shall I take in vain all Thy free found grace,
That restored my soul from all disgrace?
3. Shall I gather LORD chariots for self pride?
And behave as king, when Thou art my King?
And forget, my LORD, that Thou paid the price,
To redeem my soul from eternal cries?
4. What do I have LORD, not bestowed by grace?
What can I acclaim that my hand hath raised?
All my life and hope, from Thy hand proceed,
Who but Thee shall all my praise proceed?
